She was supposed to be a brave warrior, right? She was supposed to take danger head-on with no hesitancy, no fear. A Valkyrie's veins usually ran with bravery, honor, and valor. But Magnhild, well, the young mare was terrified.

She knew running would make her a coward, but it would also save her hide. She wasn't used to being pursued by a gang of Talorian riffraff, especially not of this size. They were considered pests, and were to be exterminated. But Magnhild, well, the young mare was terrified.

She was instructed to stand her ground and fight them off, but she knew if she did, she would likely be dead. There were ten of her kind, and dozens of Talori. It would be a defeat. Yet it would be for Onea, right? But Magnhild, well, the young mare was terrified.

She had a plan. Magnhild galloped through the trees, and she would find help. She galloped so hard that her hooves beat against her stomach and crushed the earth beneath her. Her heart hammered and blood rushed through her ears. Adrenaline was the only thing that'd save them all, hopefully. Her nostrils flared, heaving in petrichor and fresh oxygen from the oaks and cedars around her. One thing ran through mind as she hurtled towards anyone who might help control the ambush: "Flee, run from battle to save them, dearest one."

These words almost sounded like the voice of her dead father, but try as she might, Magnhild failed to push her speed to the maximum limit, as she heard her father chant these words time and time again.

But realization took over her, and Magnhild gathered her footing, and sprinted once more, faster this time. She had never galloped so fast in her life. She let the chant flow through her as quickly and surely as her blood did, but she didn't hesitate towards any obstacle that might block her path towards any safe refuge. Logs and rocks were no match for the palomino filly. She was going to make Onea proud, and do it with all the pride she had. This was not only for her Valkyrie sisters, but as well for her kin, her ancestors, and everyone else who surrounded her in this current age as well.

"Flee, run from battle to save them, dearest one."

"Yes, father."

"Save your sisters from that Talorian scum."

"I will, father."

"Ride swiftly, my love. For me, for you, for Onea."

"Without a doubt, father. You can bet that I will."

Though she couldn't help it, Magnhild felt a strong wave of emotions flow through her, and tears streamed down her face. She tried shaking them off, in an attempt to clear her vision. She was so close to the edge of the forest, she could see light seeping out through the trees in front of her. She could hear her father's voice for the first time in years. He was there to aid her in her time of need. She embraced the warmth of his love that surrounded her. She felt like she was safe, and it was like this for the first time in a long time, too. Magnhild had nothing for fear for a fleeting moment.

She heard the gruff, baritone voices of stallions as she made it out of the forest. She turned her attention towards them, and once she neared them, Magnhild skidded to a halt, her lungs gasping for air. She told them in broken English what was happening on the other side of the woods, and the four stallions turned towards the ambush, leaving her to collapse in the fresh grass.

She didn't fall asleep, but attempted to catch her breath. Magnhild looked around her-the top of Skeldr Mountain was looming in the distance, and a doe was nursing her fawn about a hundred yards away. Everything in this meadow seemed so serene, but she knew better than to think all of Onea was currently the same. But thanks to her, it would be, in short order. Magnhild couldn't tell if it was her sudden surge of bravery that got her to this point, or the brief encounter she felt spiritually with her father by her side, but all the same, she was able to help her sisters, even if it meant she wasn't fighting tooth and hoof with them. Why wasn't there a Scout in their party, she wondered. It seemed odd that there wasn't. She didn't want to think the ambush was pre-planned by the higher-ups in status, but it did strike her odd. Yet, she chose not to care at this moment. She was beat.

Magnhild rested her head in the soft, lush grass. A light, crisp breeze was tickling at her belly. Magnhild had caught her breath. She was tired, and wanted to rest, but she knew it was best that she didn't until one of her comrades came to find her. Until then, she would rest her legs and ponder about her father, wondering where he was in this realm. Was he happy? Was he safe? She wanted to go home and tell her mother, but it was unlikely that she would believe Magnhild. Perhaps her grandmother might believe her. She tried going over who might believe that his very own voice was present in her mind, urging her to go on, to find help. Magnhild began to graze for a while, waiting to be found, and to be given praise for her heroism. That's what really mattered to her-to be acknowledged, to be congratulated for being zealous and immersed with valor. She wanted to make everyone who surrounded her proud, including the stallion who created her.

She had to admit to herself-what she did was brave. Magnhild was terrified, but she pushed on, in hope of finding aid. To find a solution in a desperate time of need when fear has consumed someone...that was her definition of bravery, and she had just committed an act of that. A spark of pride lit up within her. She was growing up, and becoming a true Onean.
